What's the difference between a symbolic ceremony and a civil ceremony?
The civil ceremony takes place at city hall (la mairie) and makes your marriage legal. A symbolic ceremony has no legal standing: it's a moment you create wherever and however you like, before or after your civil wedding.
Does a symbolic ceremony replace the legal wedding?
No. In France, only a civil marriage is legally binding. A symbolic ceremony comes on top of it, to celebrate your union with your loved ones, in the place and style of your choice. Many couples from abroad get legally married at home, then celebrate their symbolic ceremony in France.
Why hire a professional rather than a friend or family member?
A loved one who officiates is also caught up in the emotion of the day: it's hard to deliver a well-structured ceremony while being fully present. A professional brings control of the pacing, tone and wording, without ever overshadowing your emotions.
How far in advance should we book?
Most couples book about a year before their wedding date: the sooner, the better. But it's never too late to ask. Depending on my availability, especially on less popular dates, there's often a way to make it work.
Can we book the ceremony and the DJ together?
Yes, and it's actually the package I recommend: it keeps the whole day consistent and simplifies your planning, with one person to talk to and one quote.
How does booking work?
First, we talk about your plans and your date. Then I send you a detailed quote, and your booking is confirmed with a deposit and a signed contract.
